Final farewell: Army, family disagreement slightly delays COAS burial

 • Late officers’ wife, sister slump at funeral There was a slight disagreement on Saturday between the family of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Ibrahim Attahiru, and the Nigerian Army over the COAS’ burial. The disagreement led to a short delay of the COAS’ interment as his family insisted that he must be buried without a coffin in accordance with Islamic injunction. Attahiru and 10 other military officers were involved in a crash on Friday at the Kaduna International Airport. It was reported that the aircraft conveying the military officers, with registration number 5N-R203, was billed to land at the Nigerian Airforce Base in the Mando area of Kaduna but diverted to land at the civil airport due to inclement weather. Apart from Attahiru, other victims were Brigadier Generals Ahmed Kuliya, O Olayinka, and MI Abdulkadir; Majors N Hamza, LA Hayat; Sergeants O Adesina, and Umar; as well as Aircraftman OM Oyedepo, Flt Lt TO Asaniyi, and Flt Lt AA Olufade. Buhari seeks Senate approval for fresh N2.3trn external loan

 The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has asked the Senate to approve another N2.3trillion ($6.18bn) external loan.This is contained in a letter addressed to the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, and read at plenary on Tuesday.Buhari said the proposed loan which is equivalent to N2.3trillion is to finance the 2021 budget deficit of N5.6 trillion.Buhari said the loan would enable the Federal Government to fund critical infrastructural projects in transportation, health, and education among others.This is coming barely a month after the Senate approved the sum of $1.5bn and €995 million external borrowings for the Federal Government.The loans were part of the $5.5 billion and €995 million external borrowings Buhari had, in May 2020, asked the Red Chamber to approve to finance various priority projects of the federal government and to support the state governments facing fiscal challenges.

Gunmen kill two NSCDC officers, cart away arms in Anambra

 Confirming the incident on Saturday, the NSCDC Public Relations Officer in the state, Okadigbo Edwin, said the incident happened in Nneyi, Umueri in the Anambra East Local Government Area of the state.He said the State Commandant, David Bille, was collaborating with sister security agencies to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.He said, “Some yet-to-be identified hoodlums attacked Civil Defence outpost in Nneyi, Umueri in Anambra East Local Government Area of the state, shooting indiscriminately.
